1. Description of the fictitious case

SkyView Drones is a company dedicated to the manufacture and operation of drones for surveillance purposes. However, its activities have crossed ethical and legal boundaries by conducting unauthorized surveillance and invasive monitoring of people and properties. These practices have severely disturbed the privacy and security of communities, generating distrust and conflicts with the local population. Additionally, the company lacks recycling policies and proper management of electronic devices at the end of their useful life, thus contributing to environmental pollution and the accumulation of technological waste.

SkyView Drones has developed a negative reputation due to its focus on unauthorized surveillance. The company's drones are used to monitor individuals and properties without proper consent, thus violating fundamental privacy rights. This invasion of privacy has caused considerable discomfort among affected communities, who feel their lives are being watched and controlled without their permission. The indiscriminate use of these devices has provoked an adverse reaction from the local population, who feel vulnerable and unprotected against constant surveillance.

The lack of clear regulations and the absence of an ethical framework in SkyView Drones' operations further aggravate the situation. The company has not implemented any measures to ensure that its monitoring activities are transparent and respectful of people's rights. This lack of responsibility has created an environment of distrust and hostility towards the company, affecting its relationship with communities and potential clients who value privacy and security.

Moreover, SkyView Drones does not have recycling policies or a proper plan for managing electronic devices at the end of their useful life. This negligence significantly contributes to environmental pollution, as discarded drones become technological waste that is not responsibly treated. The accumulation of this waste negatively impacts the environment, affecting both local ecosystems and the health of communities near landfills.

The combination of invasive practices and the lack of adequate environmental management reflects a serious absence of social responsibility in the company. SkyView Drones seems more focused on expanding its business and maximizing its profits without considering the social and environmental repercussions of its actions. This attitude not only affects its reputation and relationship with communities but can also have legal consequences if it continues to violate privacy rights and environmental regulations.

2. Alternatives to make the company socially responsible

Program based on ISO 26000: "Ethical Drones"

The "Ethical Drones" program proposes transforming the company's approach, using drones for beneficial and socially responsible tasks. This program will include activities such as reforestation, disaster rescue, and environmental monitoring for ecosystem conservation. Based on the seven core subjects of the ISO 26000 standard, this program seeks to integrate social responsibility into all company operations (AENOR, 2010).

Organizational governance: Establish a management structure that promotes social responsibility and ethics in all business decisions. Governance should ensure the participation of all stakeholders and transparency in decision-making processes.

Human rights: Ensure that surveillance operations do not violate fundamental human rights. This implies obtaining informed consent from monitored individuals and respecting their privacy (ONU, 2015).

Labor practices: Improve working conditions and offer continuous training to employees, ensuring a safe and fair work environment (Alarcón, 2019).

Environment: Adopt practices that minimize the environmental impact of drone operations, such as using clean technologies and implementing recycling policies for electronic devices at the end of their useful life (López & Martínez, 2018).

Fair operating practices: Foster integrity and transparency in all business activities, ensuring that clients and communities understand the purpose and scope of surveillance operations (AENOR, 2010).

Consumer issues: Respect individuals' privacy and ensure that the services offered are not invasive or harmful to consumers (ONU, 2015).

Active community involvement and development: Engage local communities in decision-making and support community initiatives that promote social and environmental well-being (Alarcón, 2019).

Proposed program and values Based on iso 26000 social responsibility principles

Ethics: Promote integrity and transparency in all company operations.

Transparency: Maintain open and clear communication with all stakeholders, ensuring that the company's activities are known and understood.

Sustainability: Adopt practices that minimize environmental impact and promote the conservation of natural resources (AENOR, 2010).

3. Action for responsible consumption

Description: Implement a drone rental service that includes regular maintenance programs and equipment recycling at the end of their useful life. This initiative will help reduce electronic waste and promote a sustainable lifecycle for devices (López & Martínez, 2018).

Benefits: It will reduce the accumulation of technological waste and foster more conscious and responsible use of resources.

Inclusive action

Description: Train rural communities in the use of drones for precision agriculture and sustainable resource management. This program will provide access to advanced technology and improve agricultural practices (ONU, 2015).

Less favored interest groups: Farmers in rural communities and unskilled workers who can benefit from technical training.

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and target

SDG 15 (Life on Land): Promote the sustainable management of all types of forests.

Target 15.2: Ensure the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems (ONU, 2015).

Action proposal for sustainable development

Description: Use drones for monitoring wildlife and flora in protected areas and for ecological restoration projects. These projects will help collect valuable data for conservation and improve natural resource management (Alarcón, 2019).

Impact: It will contribute to biodiversity preservation and support ecosystem restoration initiatives.

5. Personal Reflection

In the current landscape, corporate social responsibility has become a crucial factor both in my personal and professional life. The growing awareness of the importance of sustainable and ethical business practices motivates me to integrate these principles into any professional initiative I undertake. I have noticed that as society evolves, the demand for responsible business behavior increases, reflecting a change in the expectations of consumers, employees, and other key stakeholders. This cultural transformation not only requires companies to minimize their negative impact but also to generate positive value for the community and the environment.

On a personal level, I have observed how companies that adopt these values not only improve their reputation but also positively contribute to society and the environment. The adoption of responsible practices not only responds to an ethical demand but also has direct repercussions on customer satisfaction and loyalty. Companies that implement social responsibility policies tend to gain the trust of their consumers, who value and prefer to support organizations committed to the common good.

Professionally, I firmly believe that implementing responsible programs and actions is not only an ethical obligation but also a smart strategy for long-term success. Companies that integrate sustainability into their business model not only reduce operational and financial risks but also open new market opportunities. Innovations in sustainable products and services can differentiate a company from its competitors, attracting a growing segment of conscious consumers. Additionally, a focus on social responsibility can improve employee morale and productivity, who feel proud to work for an organization with values aligned with their own.

Corporate social responsibility also fosters stronger relationships with local communities and other stakeholders. Actively participating in community initiatives and solving social and environmental problems creates an environment of collaboration and mutual support. This community integration not only strengthens the company's market position but also contributes to the sustainable development of the areas in which it operates.

Finally, the adoption of social responsibility and sustainability principles reflects a long-term vision that is essential for the resilience and adaptability of companies in a constantly changing world. Organizations that prioritize these values are better prepared to face future challenges, from environmental crises to regulatory changes, and can successfully navigate an increasingly complex global environment.
